General Policies
Choosing a Class The age recommendations for Kindermusik classes have been carefully constructed to group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way. Therefore it is important that your child be at the minimum age by the start of the semester for the class in which you are enrolling. If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, we will be happy to discuss your needs and work with you to place your child in the class best suited for him/her. Check our other website at www.kidsandmusic.info for an informative chart called "Transitional Ages and Stages" Register or Re-enroll Early Although you may join our classes at any time, please register early since class sizes and times are limited and may fill quickly. Registering at least three weeks before the semester begins also ensures that your child will receive home materials at the first class. If you enroll after the semester begins, we will pro-rate your tuition accordingly (semester length classes only - does not apply to summer camps). Enrollment Confirmation A registration form(or online registration) and payment must be received before enrollment can be confirmed. If registering by mail, we will contact you within two weeks of the beginning of class to confirm your registration. Non-enrolled Siblings Due to limited class size and the delicacy of younger class settings, Village and Our Time (including Creatures at the Ocean and Creatures in My Backyard) classes can only accommodate non-enrolled siblings when the sibling is young enough to stay contented in a carseat carrier or stroller. Emergency exceptions are considered. Free Visits We are happy to arrange a free visit for a friend in any semester-length class. Please contact your educator in advance for availability. Does not apply to summer camps. Wellness Policy If your child is ill in any way, please keep him or her home and utilize a make up class. Details about our Health Policy are in the Parent Guide. Families enrolled in the Special Health Needs class will be held to the strictest of health standards. For summer camps, if your child is too ill to come to camp, we can discuss a refund or credit voucher for another class. Hand sanitizer is available both in the waiting area and studio and should be used upon arrival and before and/or after activities involving touch. Every instrument used in class is placed in the "laundry bag" after use for cleaning. They are cleaned after each class regardless of whether or not they appear dirty. Make-up Classes You may make up a class by attending another class for your child's age - even proactively if you know in advance! We will make every attempt to make up classes missed by the Educator. However, if we are forced to close due to inclement weather, catastrophe, destruction of studio or public health emergency, we reserve the right to not make-up these classes. Remember, there are no refunds or credits for forgetting class or just playing hookey! Arriving at Class Plan to arrive about 5 minutes early for class. Arriving a little before class provides time for your child to settle into the musical environment as they prepare to enjoy exploring instruments, reading books, or listening to music. I do request that toys, juice cups, and pacifiers be kept out of sight, and that snacks be finished prior to class. No eating or drinking is allowed in the classroom (except for breastfeeding babies). Be sure to dress comfortably as you will spend time on the floor and moving about with your child. During class, the most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model. It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. Don't be discouraged - what a child is absorbing in class is often seen in the comfort of home rather than in a certain level of participation in class. The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth. In Imagine That! and Young Child classes, your child will appreciate sharing activities with you at the Family Sharing Time scheduled for the last 15 minutes of class. Please make this time a priority. By the way, I love for parents to chat with each other before or after class, but not during class time, please! When you are an active, focused, enthusiastic participant in the class activities, your child will model your actions and focus more fully too. You and your child will enormously benefit from the Kindermusik experience, especially if you make active use of your Home Materials. Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week makes all the difference in a child's comfort and participation in the classroom. ABOUT BEHAVIOR It is perfectly normal for children to run, tumble, scream, cry, and protest. And all children will do these things. Please keep in mind, however, that some behaviors, although very natural for a child, may be disruptive or dangerous during an inside activity. [For parents of Imagine That! and Young Child students: Your child may react differently when you enter the room. They may have been fully participating until you enter, then shut down completely. Or they may have been perfectly behaved, and then suddenly act-out and be embarassing to you when you enter. This is a typical reaction at this age, so don't worry!] · If your child becomes upset or disruptive, please take him/her outside the room and set appropriate boundaries before returning. This helps the class move smoothly and keeps all the children focused. · Running is not permitted for the safety of the children. Also, please stop any "contagious behaviors" that affect the class. · All children have rough days. If your child is extremely upset and unable to settle in, it is best to leave and try again another day. If your child is misbehaving, a stern warning followed by going home usually prevents the behavior's recurrence. You are always welcome to make-up the class and try again on a better day. AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR POLICY Aggressive behaviors include, but are not limited to: intentionally throwing objects at others, biting, hitting, kicking, tackling, and scratching. Also included are behaviors that cause damage to the classroom facility or property of Kids & Music. The following actions will be taken if these behaviors occur:
